Here's an update on the latest news and information from West London branch of CAMRA for September 2018. Further news can be found in the August/September edition of London Drinker.
Branch events
- September
- The September branch meeting is at The Bolton, 326 Earls Court Road (upstairs), on Tuesday 11th September. We'll be meeting from 7pm for a 7.30pm start to the meeting.
- October
- We're joining the Union Tavern for their regular Meet The Brewer event on Tuesday 2nd October. Please book with the pub.
- We're going on a survey crawl of the SW1 area on Wednesday 3rd October. Starting at the Buckingham Arms, 62 Petty France, SW1H 9EU. Meeting from 7pm for a 7.30pm start to the crawl.
- The October branch meeting is at the Walmer Castle (upstairs) at 58 Ledbury Road, W11 2AJ on Tuesday 16th October. We'll be meeting from 7pm for a 7.30pm start to the meeting.
- We're going on a survey crawl of the W2 area on Wednesday 24th October. Starting at the Leinster Arms, 17 Leinster Terrace, W2 3EU. Meeting from 7pm for a 7.30pm start to the crawl.
- November
- We're joining the Union Tavern for their regular Meet The Brewer event on Tuesday 6th November. Please book with the pub.
- The November branch meeting is at the Star Tavern (upstairs) at 6 Belgrave Mews West, SW1X 8HT on Tuesday 13th November. We'll be meeting from 7pm for a 7.30pm start to the meeting.
- We're going on a survey crawl of the W1 area on Wednesday 14th November. Starting at the Argyll Arms, 18 Argyll Street, W1F 7TP. Meeting from 7pm for a 7.30pm start to the crawl.
- We're going on a survey crawl of the SW6 and W6 areas on Tuesday 27th November. Starting at the Durell Arms, 704 Fulham Road, SW6 5SB. Meeting from 7pm for a 7.30pm start to the crawl.
Other CAMRA events
- The Wandle Beer Festival (by South West London branch of CAMRA) in Mitcham is being held from 13th to 15th September.
- CAMRA's London Pubs Group will be having their next crawl of historic pubs on Saturday 20th October. See the London Pubs Group website for details.
Pub events
- The Harp, Chandos Place is celebrating Cask Ale Week. From 20th to 24th they will have a selection of Gold, Silver and Bronze winners from the Great British Beer Festival. On 25th September, all four of the Fullers and Friends collaboration beers will be available.

Pub news
- The Perseverence, 11-12 Shroton St, NW1 6UG reopened in July.
- The Savoy Tup has been taken over by Shepherd Neame and renamed the Savoy Tap.
- Some progress on rebuilding the Carlton Tavern, NW6 has been seen.
- A planning application to demolish The Talbot, 2 Little Chester Street, SW1 was approved in August 2018.
- Walker's of St James, 32 Duke St, SW1 has been demolished.
- The King William IV, 110-111 Grosvenor Road is currently closed, to reopen maybe early 2019.
- Permission to demolish the Trafalgar, 200 Kings Road, SW3 has been granted, but a new pub is due to be part of the redevelopment.
- The Beauchamp, 43-44 Beauchamp Place is currently closed, to reopen once entire building is renovated.
- The Blackbird, 209 Earls Court Road is closed for refurbishment and is due to reopen 16 October 2018.
- The Dover Castle, 43 Weymouth Mews is due to reopen in October 2018 by Bloomsbury Leisure Group as the Jackalope, with 20 beer lines.
- The Redan, 1 Westbourne Grove, W2 has closed, permission was granted in July for it to be used as a sales and marketing suite for five years.
- A planning application for the Sir Alexander Fleming, 16 Bouverie Place to use the ground floor as a restaurant and convert upstairs to flats was submitted.
- The Mad Bishop and Bear at Paddington Station plans to reopen on 17 September 2018 following a refurbishment.
- The Andover Arms, 57 Aldensley Road, W6 is due to reopen mid September.

- West London branch will be joining the Union Tavern, 45 Woodfield Road, W9 for their Meet The Brewer event (brewery to be confirmed) on Tuesday 10 July at 7pm. Book with pub.
- Sambrook's event at the Central Bar (Wetherspoons), West 12 Centre, Shepherds Bush Green (south), W12 8PH on 16 July at 7.30pm.

- Ealing Beer Festival is on 11 to 14 July. With almost 400 real ales from all over the country, including up to 15 in wooden barrels (with the assistance of the Society for Preservation of Beer from the Wood (SPBW)), an extensive range of cider and perries, a foreign beer bar, a wine and mead selection plus soft drinks there should be something for everybody!

- The White Swan, lower Pimlico, SW1 has reopened after a refurbishment.

- The Metropolitan, Westbourne Park reopened on 15th June under new ownership.
- The George and Dragon, Fitzrovia has temporarily closed for structural work on the building.

- The June/July issue of London Drinker is now out in pubs across London and online with all the latest news about pubs, CAMRA and beer related events.
Pub news
- The Newman Arms in Fitzrovia reopened on 16 May under management of Truman's Brewery. It features 12 keg and 4 cask beers including some guest beers. Takeaway growlers are available: the growler machine will fill 910ml cans with any draught beer on site, for customers to take away.
- The Perseverance, Marylebone is reported to have reopened.
- The Pillars of Hercules, Greek Street has reopened.
- The White Swan, lower Pimlico, SW1 has been reported as closed. It's assumed they are refurbishing it, as there is no planning application for any change of use etc.
- The Black Bull, 251 King St, Hammersmith seems to be closed currently.

March 2018 news
Here's an update on the latest news and information from West London branch of CAMRA for March 2018. Updates made since the beginning of the month are marked [NEW].
Branch events
- The branch meeting for March is on Tuesday 13th March at the Star Tavern (upstairs), 6 Belgrave Mews West, SW1.
- On 6 March, is the Union Tavern's Meet The Brewer evening.
- [NEW]: The branch meeting for April is on Monday 16th April at 7pm for 7.30 at Sir John Balcombe, 21 Balcombe Street, Marylebone, NW1 6HE.
- [NEW]: The branch AGM (annual general meeting) will be held at the Defector's Weld (upstairs), 170 Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush, W12 8AA.
Other CAMRA events
- The final London Drinker Beer Festival at the Camden Centre is on 14th to 16th March, with 182 beers!
- [NEW]: The national CAMRA National Weekend, Conference and AGM is on 20-22 April in Coventry. All CAMRA members are welcome to attend.
- [NEW]: CAMRA's London Pubs Group will be having their next crawl of historic pubs on 25th April in Belsize Park and Kentish Town. See the London Pubs Group website for details.
Pub events
- The White Horse on Parsons Green is having its Over The Hop Beer Festival on 15th to 18th March, with 40+ hop forward beers. Their Facebook page has more information.
- Hippo Inns are holding 'Hopfest' during March across their eleven pubs including four in the West London area - The Lillie Langtry (19 Lillie Rd, SW6), The Colton Arms (187 Greyhound Rd, W14), The Blue Anchor (13 Lower Mall, W6) and The Eagle (250 Ladbroke Grove, W10). A range of beers from London and further afield will be on offer during the festival, with a special price of £3.80 on Mondays and Tuesdays (£4.30 on other days).
Branch news
- Voting for the branch pub of the year has now closed. Thanks to all those who voted. We'll be announcing the winners and making presentations to the winning pubs soon.
Pub news
- The Swan in Bayswater reopens on Friday 2nd March, following a refurbishment.
- The Old Ship and Blue Anchor by the river in Hammersmith have both reopened after refurbishments.
- The Imperial in Kings Road has reopened as the Imperial Arms.
- The Victoria, Paddington is being refurbished and due to reopen on 26th March.
- [NEW]: The Old Suffolk Punch in Hammersmith announced it is to reopen on 20th March. It is to be run by West Berkshire Brewery.
Pub preservation
- Hammersmith & Fulham Council formally adopted their Local Plan on 28th February including a new pub protection policy.
National CAMRA news
- [NEW]: CAMRA members should not forget to vote to have their say about the future of CAMRA with the proposed Revitalisation Project changes, and to vote for your preferred candidates for the National Executive. Votes must be received by midnight on 18th April. You should have received a booklet about the proposals and a voting form with your copy of What's Brewing, and you should have also received an email from CAMRA HQ with a link to vote online (if you provided an email address to CAMRA when you joined or subsequently).
