Branch and regional CAMRA news and events
  • West London Pub of the Year has been announced. A huge thankyou to all those who voted in our Pub of the Year competition. As happens very often, the difference in number of points between the winning pubs was very close, but the Top Three are: 1st place, the Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico. Joint runners-up with equal points: the Star Tavern, Belgravia and the Harp, Covent Garden. Only one point behind was the Antelope, Belgravia, in fourth place: so congratulations to Fuller’s for three of their pubs getting into our top four!
  • London Pubs Group continues its tours of historic pubs - for information see https://londonpubsgroup.camra.org.uk/events.

Pub and brewery news
  • The new JD Wetherspoon at Fulham Broadway station (old ticket hall) is scheduled to open on 17 June. It will be named the Walham Green, in a nod to the pre-1952 name of the station.
  • The Fat Badger in the northern part of Portobello Road, has currently opened as a VIP WhatsApp number invite-only venue. It is assumed it will open up more, later on! It does not yet exist on Google Maps.
  • SW1, PRINCE ARTHUR, 11 Pimlico Road, SW1W 8NA. After various incarnations, this is now a gastropub with an Anglo-Spanish menu. The Pub Below is the name given to the ground-floor pub area. It is a luxury interpretation of a modern tavern, with own-brand caviar and a fresh seafood counter with produce from Spain and Cornwall. Customers can pick seafood to enjoy in the pub, or take it home! There is a small bar-snacks menu, and the main restaurant upstairs has of course more substantial dishes. Expect to pay Pimlico prices. The Guinness is installed via the tap system in Ireland, and Jeremy Clarkson's Hawkstone beer range is available. No cask ale.
  • SW1, WESTMINSTER ARMS (Shepherd Neame), 9-10 Storey's Gate, SW1P 3AT. Closed for refurb. reopening mid-March 2025.
  • SW1, WHITE HORSE & BOWER (Shepherd Neame), 86 Horseferry Road, SW1P 2EE. Reopening delayed - now says Summer 2025.
  • SW5, BOTTLERY, 231 Earls Court Road, SW5 9AH. The Bottlery is a small restaurant with some seating for drinkers-only and a few keg beers on offer on the extensive drinks menu. Steaks are a speciality. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub.
  • SW5, TROUBADOUR, 265-267 Old Brompton Road, SW5 9JA. The Troubadour is very close to the Pembroke pub on Old Brompton Road and was founded in 1954; it has become one of London's oldest independent music venues. Over the years it has hosted such as Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Paul Simon, Adele, Ed Sheehan and many many more! There is live music most days of the week and a wide range of music genres. The food menu includes a breakfast/brunch offering plus in the evenings pub favourites and sharing platters. The drinks list includes various keg beers and ciders plus some bottles, plus of course the usual cocktails, wines, and spirits. A service charge is added to bills. It is perfectly possible to drink without needing to eat, but for most of the music events an entry fee will be charged, see venue website.
  • SW5, TWICE SHY, 14 Hogarth Place, SW5 0QT. This is a cocktail bar, opened in 2023 by a former head mixologist at the Savoy. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. The venue has a ground floor featuring a five-meter black granite counter, and a basement with a Lounge Bar and cocktail laboratory. Over 18s only, no fancy dress or football colours. Walk-ins accepted. Light food available. Card only. Sister venue to Amaro Bar.
  • SW6, TEMPERANCE (Wellington/Stonegate), 90 Fulham High Street, SW6 3LF. Reopened following refurb. New additions include 98-inch and 85-inch TVs placed throughout the venue. Five new seating booths have also been installed, all equipped with HD TVs, while new pool tables and dart boards are available throughout the pub. The venue also support sport within the local community through its sponsorship of Hammersmith and Fulham Rugby Club. No cask ale.
  • SW6, VAGABOND, 18-22 Vanston Place, SW6 1AX. This is the first and flagship store of the small London-based Vagabond wine bar chain, open since 2010. 100+ wines are available by the glass, bottle or takeaway, plus a few draught keg beers. Tapas-style sharing plates, flatbreads, and cheese/meat boards are available food-wise. Note restricted opening hours.
  • SW7, CHECKMATE BAR (Global - Link Investments Ltd/FHT London 3 Ltd/P I Hotel Management Ltd/Frasers Hospitality), 117-129 Cromwell Road, SW7 4DS. Smart cocktail bar in this upmarket hotel, now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Some keg beers but no cask ale. Happy hour 5pm-7.30pm. Last orders 10.30pm. Note restricted opening hours.
  • SW10, FINBOROUGH ARMS (Finborough Arms Ltd/The Steam Industry/independent), 118 Finborough Road, SW10 9ED. After more than four years closed and following a complete refurbishment, the former Finborough Arms has reopened as YOGI'S, a bar/restaurant reported to be offering draught beer, an extensive cocktail list and high-quality Indian and pan-Asian food. The award-winning 50-seat Finborough Theatre remains on the first floor.
  • W1, 28-50, 15-17 Marylebone Lane, W1U 2NE. A wine bar, wine workshop and kitchen, now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. There is a small bar bites menu including sharing platters, and a set lunch menu, as well as the a la carte. Drinks include cocktails, spirits, and bottled beers, as well as wine.
  • W1, ANGELIQUE'S WINE HOUSE, 18-19 St Christopher's Place, W1U 1NN. Wine bar and shop, also serving a small food selection including cheese and charcuterie sharing platters. Drinks available also include spirits and a bottled beer. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Sister site to Shepherd Market wine bar in southern Mayfair.
  • W1, ANTIDOTE, 12A Newburgh Street, W1F 7RR. Wine bar & shop off Carnaby Street offering organic and biodynamic wines plus small plates, cheese and charcuterie. Tasting sessions of wine are offered. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub.
  • W1, BAR LINA, 18 Brewer Street, W1F 0SG. This is a cellar Italian aperitivo/cocktail bar with a very small food offering also, beneath Lina Stores delicatessen which has been trading for 80+ years. Entry is by way of the deli's original entrance. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Walk-ins welcome. There is a sister site in Shoreditch. Card only. Restricted opening hours.
  • W1, BAR TERMINI, 7 Old Compton Street, W1D 5JE. This is a small Italian coffee, cocktail and aperitivo bar "inspired by the traditional bar culture of 1950s Italy"; also with a tiny food offering and a shop for takeaway purchases. Now in conformance with the CAMRA definition of a pub. Described as lively and always busy, but quiet because of its size. It takes bookings but welcomes walk-ins.
  • W1, BLACK BOOK, 23 Frith Street, W1D 4RR. Initially launched as a members club, this subterranean space is now open to the public as well. The name is a reference to the 'black book' which sommeliers are said to keep for tasting notes about wines. The wine list here changes daily and the food offering is largely pizzas plus cheese & charcuterie sharing boards. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Note restricted opening hours. Also note that the Blue Plaque shown celebrates the first demonstration of television in this country in the house next door, in 1926.
  • W1, BROOKS MEWS WINE HOUSE, 24 Brook's Mews, W1K 4EA. This is a shop and wine bar converted from an old carriage workshop in a mews behind Claridge's Hotel. The ground floor has a wine wall and the mezzanine is a lounge area with banquettes. The venue is now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. The drinks list also includes cocktails, spirits, and a beer. A small food menu is on offer including cheese & charcuterie sharing platters.
  • W1, COMPTOIR CAFE & WINE, 21-22 Weighhouse Street, W1K 5LU. "A cafe by day and a wine bar by night". Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. The drinks include spirits and beers as well as wine. Food is available from a shortish menu, starting with pastries from 8.30am.
  • W1, DUKE OF YORK (McMullen), 47 Rathbone Street, W1T 1NW. Reported closed after cessation of tenancy. Ownership has now passed to McMullen's.
  • W1, FARM SHOP WINE BAR, 64 South Audley Street, W1K 2QT. This is a wine bar underneath the farm shop in South Audley Street and accessed from inside the shop. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. A food menu is available using produce from the shop upstairs and includes cheese and charcuterie sharing boards. The drinks list includes some bottled beers and a cider. The venue is under the same management as the Audley public house nearby.
  • W1, GARLIC & SHOTS, 14 Frith Street, W1D 4RD. This is a gothic-style bar with a claimed 101 flavoured vodkas and other shots, plus cantina-style food all of which contains garlic. Various other drinks are available apart from shots, including garlic-flavoured beer! No reservations taken. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Note restricted opening hours.W1, G-A-Y (Soho Estates/G-A-Y Group Ltd/Mean Fiddler), 30 Old Compton Street, W1D 4TQ. Reopened.
  • W1, ITALIANS, 27b Devonshire Street, W1G 6PW. Wine bar and deli sourcing mainly from small Italian producers, very close to the corner of Devonshire St. and Marylebone High St. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub
  • W1, SHEPHERD MARKET WINE HOUSE, 21-23 Shepherd Market, W1J 7PN. Wine bar and shop, also serving a small food selection including cheese and charcuterie sharing platters. The drinks on offer also include spirits and sake. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Sister site to Angelique's wine bar in southern Marylebone.
  • W1, SHIP, 134 New Cavendish Street, W1W 6YB. Real Ale reinstated, a changing beer such as from Hawkstone.
  • W1, SWIFT, 12 Old Compton Street, W1D 4TQ. Cocktail bar with an upstairs bar for walk-ins and a downstairs bar for reservations-only. Some wines, whiskies and bottled beers etc. plus one draught Pilsner, are also available on the menu plus a few nibble-type snacks. The venue operates an over-21s policy. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Note that alcohol may not be sold after 10.30pm on Sundays.
  • W1, TINY WINE, 21 Foley Street, W1W 6DR. On the corner of Foley Street and Hanson Street, this is billed as "London's tiniest wine shop". Access is via Crudo Cevicheria, part of a small London chain. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Beers and cocktails are available as well as wine.
  • W1, VAGABOND, 25 Charlotte Street, W1T 1RW. Part of the small Vagabond wine bar chain with a dozen or so outlets, mainly in London. Multiple wines to drink by the bottle or glass, and two or three draught keg beers are available. The food offering is tapas/small plates and sharing plates of cheese, meats, etc.
  • W2, CAFFE RITAZZA, Unit R08, Lower level, The Lawn, Paddington Station, W2 1HB. Ritazza is a standalone takeaway coffee and snack outlet on the ground floor of the covered Lawn area at Paddington Station. A tiny range of alcohol is also on offer including from a couple of keg beer fonts, with bar seating, see our photo. Note that alcohol may not be sold until 10am Monday to Saturday or noon on Sunday.
  • W2, CLEVELAND ARMS (Market Taverns Ltd), 28 Chilworth Street, W2 6DT. Now Cask Marque accredited.
  • W2, MARKET HALL, 1 Paddington Square, W2 1DL. This is the latest outlet from Market Halls, in the new Paddington Square development just east of the main Paddington Station entrance from Praed Street. It has an outdoor terrace, eight street-food traders, and two bars. Kitchens close an hour before the venue closing time but Farm Girl opens 8am Monday-Saturday for coffee and breakfast, 10am on Sunday. All other kitchens open from 11.30am. At date of this entry the licence conditions are not known, but may not allow alcohol from 8am.
  • W6, HAMMERSMITH BREWERY TAPROOM, Lower Ground Floor, 106 Fulham Palace Road, W6 9PL. Closed as works in adjacent buildings have caused problems to the environment in the brewery and taproom. Expected to reopen Spring 2025.
  • W6, RAVEN (Trust Inns/MC Bars Ltd), 375 Goldhawk Road, W6 0SA. Now Cask Marque accredited.
  • W8, AMARO BAR, 15 Kensington High Street, W8 5NP. Very close to the south-west edge of Kensington Gardens, this is a cocktail bar now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Walk-ins welcome. Card only and over-18s only, no fancy dress or football colours. A small selection of bar snacks including cheese & charcuterie boards is available, along with an extensive drinks list.W8, BLUE STOOPS (Allsopp's Taverns), 127-129 Kensington Church Street, W8 7LP. Now Cask Marque accredited.
  • W8, DROP KENSINGTON, 37 Earls Court Road, W8 6ED. A wine bar & bottle shop, serving wine by the glass, carafe or bottle to drink in; the food offering is cheese and charcuterie platters and small plates. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Very handy for the Design Museum.
  • W8, HIGH SPIRIT, 62 Kensington High Street, W8 4PE. Cocktail bar also selling wine and some draught beers. "Designed to appeal to twenty- and thirty-somethings, with an upbeat atmosphere, buzzy music". Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. There is a food court for various street-food options.
  • W8, STABLES BAR, Milestone Hotel, 1-3 Kensington Court, W8 5DL. Cocktail bar in this 5-star hotel opposite Kensington Palace. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. The menu includes a few beers, and a bar-food offering. Expect to pay 5-star Kensington prices.
  • W8, WINDSOR CASTLE (M&B/Castle), 114 Campden Hill Road, W8 7AR. CAMRA discount is 10%.
  • W9, HERO (The Public House Group), 55 Shirland Road, W9 2JD. No longer sells real ale.
  • W10, CHILLED ESKIMO, 48 Southern Row, W10 5AN. Has been operating as an event venue for a number of years.
  • W10, FAT BADGER, 310 Portobello Road, W10 5TA. This site towards the north end of Portobello Road was a former Truman pub converted c.2010 into a pizza restaurant and thought by CAMRA to be "permanently closed". Phoenix-like, a new pub has now emerged above Canteen restaurant and its access is in fact via a "speakeasy door" around the corner in Bevington Road. There is a small "Fat Badger" swing-sign to guide you. Public House Group, the umbrella company operating the Pelican nearby and the Hero in Maida Vale, has taken over the building. The Standard reports the pub is currently invite only!
  • W11, QUIET NIGHT INN (Max Barney Pub Company/Forest Road Brewery), 60 Great Western Road, W11 1AB. No longer sells real ale.
  • W14, COBALTO, 226 North End Road, W14 9NU. Part wine bar, part bottle shop. The drinks list includes cocktails and beers and the wines are mostly from Italy, sourced directly from organic and biodynamic vineyards. The venue is now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. There is a small food offering including cheese and charcuterie platters. At date of this entry there is an Instagram feed but no website. Serving conditions may vary on days with Chelsea FC home matches.
  • WC2, BEDFORD STREET WINES, 33 Bedford Street, WC2E 9ED. Wine bar and bottle shop "focussed on small producers, family-run vineyards and craft beers". Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. There is a large kitchen-style table bar in the middle of the shop and some tables by the windows.
  • WC2, CELLARDOOR, Zero Aldwych, WC2R 0HS. Directly opposite the Wellington pub and looking like the entrance to one of the underground street WCs once so common in London, this is because it was indeed once a Victorian gents' loo; and is hence compact! "Covent Garden's smallest bar". A neon sign points the way down. No door charge and accepts walk-ins but space is very limited and various VIP options to get tables are available, see venue website. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Wine and beers are available within the drinks options.
  • WC2, GEORGE (Greene King//Metropolitan), 213 Strand, WC2R 1AP. Sells Sandford Orchards real cider.
  • WC2, JOE ALLEN, 2 Burleigh Street, WC2E 7PX. A famous watering-hole on the ground floor of the huge 788-room Strand Palace Hotel in the heart of Theatreland, "inspired by the discreet, neighbourhood drinking dens of downtown New York". Previously in Wellington Street, now relocated. Can be accessed either via the hotel lobby or direct from the street. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub.
  • WC2, LADY OF THE GRAPES, 16 Maiden Lane, WC2E 7NJ. This is a wine bar, wine shop, and restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden, now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. The wines are "a result of organic, biodynamic, and minimal intervention viticulture" and the food offering is simple French bistro-style. Some cocktails, bottled beers etc. are also on offer in addition to the wine list.
  • WC2, TGI FRIDAYS BAR & RESTAURANT, Leicester Square,WC2H 7LA. Closed at the end of January 2025.

  • SW1, WESTMINSTER ARMS (Shepherd Neame), 9-10 Storey's Gate, SW1P 3AT. Refurbished March 2025 at a cost of over £1m. Now open. The refurb included an all-electric and expanded kitchen; and the outside is now in a "Westminster Plum" colour.

  • SW1, WHITE FERRY HOUSE (Stonegate/PubLove), 1a Sutherland Street, SW1V 4LD.No longer Cask Marque accredited.

  • SW5, BLACKBIRD (Fuller's), 209 Earls Court Road, SW5 9AN. Now offers CAMRA members 10% discount off real ales.

  • SW6, KING'S HOUSE (Wellington/ City Pub Company), 541 Kings Road, SW6 2EB. Having been closed for over a year, this venue reopened in March 2025. It has been co-founded by five well-known cricket names plus rugby star Jamie George. The pub has been re-named the BOUNDARY as it is the first building on the Fulham side of Stanley Bridge, the borough border with Chelsea. The pub is on two floors, with a dining area/function room on the first floor; and there is a large garden at the back. Food will major on pizzas.

  • SW6, MCGETTIGAN'S (HPUT A Ltd/Stonegate/independent), 1 The Broadway, SW6 1AA. Already reported closed, now listed on Stonegate website as a fixed term tenancy.

  • W1, BE AT ONE, 17 Greek Street, W1D 4DR. Opened by 2015 in former nightclub premises. Part of the national chain, and now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. No cask ale.

  • W1, BLIND PIG, 8-10 Pollen Street, W1S 1NQ. Closed to reopen as Motcombs Tavern around 17 June 2025.

  • W1, BLUE POSTS (Greene King/unknown/Greene King), 18 Kingly Street, W1B 5PX. Closed for refurbishment.

  • W1, COYOTE UGLY SALOON (//), 30 Shaftesbury Avenue, W1D 7EP Part of the international chain, with several sites now in Britain. "The most famous bar on the planet. Period." The first bar opened in New York in 1994 and the brand is owned by The Walt Disney Company. Various keg beers are available within the drinks menu; food options veer towards burgers and pizzas. Tickets would be needed for the entertainment offered. The venue has a rare Westminster 3am alcohol licence.

  • W1, HARCOURT (Harcourt Pub Limited), 32 Harcourt Street, W1H 4HX. Already reported closed. Freehold sold to Hillolim Marylebone Ltd March 2025. Future still uncertain.

  • W1, MASONS ARMS (Greene King/unknown/Greene King), 38 Maddox Street, W1S 1PY. CAMRA member refused discount - to be re-checked.

  • W1, THREE SHEETS (//), 13 Manette Street, W1D 4AP. Opened in March 2024 as the sister bar to the one in Dalston. Mainly a cocktail bar and restaurant. Beer & Cider is available although it may only be in bottles.

  • W1, TWO FLOORS (Shaftesbury/Barworks), 2-4 Kingly Street, W1B 5PD. Reopened – still no real ale.

  • W2, DUKE OF KENDAL (Connaught Pubs Ltd), 38 Connaught Street, W2 2AF. No longer Cask Marque accredited.

  • W2, MITRE (Young's/unknown/Young's), 24 Craven Terrace, W2 3QH. Refurbished March 2025.

  • W6, CROSS KEYS (Fullers tenanted), 57 Black Lion Lane, W6 9BG. CAMRA discount 10% off cask ale confirmed by manager Mar 2025

  • W8, PASSYUNK AVENUE (//), 16 Kensington Church Street, W8 4EP. Latest London outlet for the Philadelphia-themed food and drinks venue. A range of draught beers is available from the bar and if you only want a drink you must sit in the bar area.

  • W8, UXBRIDGE ARMS (Dorset Council/Stonegate), 13 Uxbridge Street, W8 7TQ. Cask Marque re-accredited

  • W10, BERTIE BLOSSOMS, 323 Portobello Road, W10 5SY. Reopened after extended temporary closure.

  • W10, EAGLE (Stonegate/The Chapter Collection), 250 Ladbroke Grove, W10 5LP. No longer Cask Marque accredited.

  • W14, BEACONSFIELD, 24 Blythe Road, W14 0HA. Self-declared by landlord closed in mid-April 2025, "following an incredibly tough three year struggle". Lease on the market.

  • W14, ELM (RedCat Taverns Ltd/individual/Yellow Panda Pub Co), 206 North End Road, W14 9NX. Freehold bought by Lombard Asset Pub Portfolio London Ltd.

  • W14, OLD OAK (Redcat), 180 North End Road, W14 9NX. Sold to The Old Oak Kensington Ltd. Planning application 2024/02787/FUL submitted 1/11/24 | Replacement of the existing roof with two new additional floors at roof level to form second and third floor levels including rear extensions at first floor level; formation of roof terraces at first, second and third floor levels; installation of a new door to replace the existing window at first floor level to southern elevation of the building; infilling of the existing windows and door to western elevation and infilling of the existing window to southern elevation of the building at ground floor level in connection with the formation of bin and cycle storage; installation of two new doors to western elevation boundary wall; installation of a new residential entrance door opening to northern elevation of the building at ground floor level; change of use of rear part of ground floor level (northern side of building to provide access to upper floor residential units), change of use and conversion of the first, second and third floor levels from pub (Class Sui Generis) into 5no self-contained flats (Class C3) comprising of 2 x studio and 3 x 2 bedroom flats.   • WC2, LARRY'S, National Portrait Gallery, St. Martin's Place, WC2H 0HE. This is a cafe / cocktail bar in the newly-restored vaults of the Gallery, named after the legendary thespian Sir Laurence Olivier, aka Larry to the luvvies. The vaults were originally built as coal storage in 1896. The venue is operated by the Daisy Green chain and offers lunch, afternoon tea, evening plates, cocktails, and jazz! Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub.

"Inspired by the clandestine drinking dens of Prohibition-era America". Vinyl records, snacks and burgers, and the long drinks list includes draught Guinness plus various botted beers and lagers. The Mary's restaurant food menu is also available in the linked venue. Walk-ins welcome.
  • W1, PURL, Basement, 50-54 Blandford Street, W1U 7HX. Closed temporarily, reopening soon under another name.
  • W6, HAMPSHIRE (Heineken), 227 King Street, W6 9JT. Reopened as HAMMERSMITH BELLE, now part of the small London Belle chain and sports their signature red and pink silk roses on the walls and artificial grass on the ceiling. There is a striking black and white chequered floor and much use is made of mirrors and other glass to enhance the lighting. The grand fireplace at the rear survives. The bar accommodates numerous keg beer taps and two ale handpulls, but the latter were not yet in use at date of our visit soon after the pub's soft opening. However, Fuller's London Pride is expected to be on offer by the end of January 2025. There is an extensive food menu with a focus on burgers and, on Sundays, roasts. Breakfast is offered from the 8am opening time until 11.30am but note that alcohol cannot be served until 10am.
  • W10, BERTIE BLOSSOMS (Maverick Properties Ltd/individual/Fat Punt), 323 Portobello Road, W10 5SY. Temporarily closed, reopening expected Feb 2025.
  • W11, BAR 128, 126-128 Notting Hill Gate, W11 3QG. This venue has had a number of names since closing as Bar 128 but became ARCHER STREET in December 2022.
  • W11, GATE RESTAURANT & BAR, 87 Notting Hill Gate, W11 3JZ. Became VIAJANTE87 in January 2023, a Latin-American cocktail bar; there is one bottled beer available.
  • W11, LOVE, 265 Portobello Road, W11 1LR. Closed in November. It sold cocktails, wine, champagne, some bottled lagers and cider.
  • W12, GREEN (Stonegate/Craft Union), 172-174 Uxbridge Road, W12 7JP. No longer selling real ale, the handpumps having been removed.
  • W14, CROWN & SCEPTRE (Heineken), 34 Holland Road, W14 8BA. Closed, future uncertain.

  • SW7, 1606 BAR (Rembrandt Hotel Ltd), 11 Thurloe Place, SW7 2RS. Smart conservatory lounge bar in this 190-room upmarket hotel. Afternoon tea is served here from 2.30 to 6.30, otherwise a range of sandwiches and more substantial pub food is available. Three keg beers/lagers are available but no cask ale.

  • W1, BLUE POSTS, 28 Rupert Street, W1D 6DJ. Real cider no longer available.

  • W1, BOOM BATTLE BAR, 70-88 Oxford Street, W1D 1BP. Part of a growing national chain of "experience bar" venues, this is a 15,000-plus square-foot venue offering augmented reality axe throwing and darts, shuffleboards, karaoke rooms, beer pong, Escape Hunt adventures and “crazier golf” alongside a drinks menu and a limited “Boom bites” street-food offering. Drinks include draught Guinness and various draught keg beers.

  • W1, FREEDOM (Soho Bars), 66 Wardour Street, W1F 0TA. Closed for refurb.

  • W1, JERUSALEM BAR & KITCHEN (Breakfast Group), 33-34 Rathbone Place, W1T 1JQ. Reopened as LUCY WONG, a cocktail and dim sum & light Chinese food bar. It is a basement site with a Costa Coffee outlet at ground-floor level. Some draught beers are available within the drinks menu. Note restricted opening hours.

  • W1, LITTLE VIOLET DOOR, 9 Kingly Street, W1B 5PH. Part of the small "Little Door" chain of cocktail bars in London. The conceit is that this is a flatshare, turned into a cocktail bar/restaurant. A couple of draught keg beers are available plus bottles/cans and of course cocktails and wines. Food is available pretty much all the time but with separate lunch and brunch menus. See venue website for offers. There is a small seating area outside in Kingly Street, and of course inside.

  • W1, MR FOGG'S PAWNBROKERS, 50 Dean Sreet, W1D 5BQ. Next door to the well-known French House pub, this is one of the growing London chain of Mr Fogg's cocktail bars, now all falling within CAMRAs definition of a pub. All the Fogg's venues are individual and quirky, and the conceit at this one is that Phileas Fogg's "wayward half-brother Frank Fogg (once a pawnbroker by trade) has opened the doors to his newly-acquired Victorian shop, selling a bizarre display of unique artefacts collected from around the world." The venue is split into three spaces, the Pawnbrokers Counter, the Strong Room & the Textiles Room. Aside from the drinks, the food offering is a small selection of nibbles, cheese and charcuterie.

  • W1, NQ64, 53-54 Berwick Street, W1F 8SP. This basement Soho site just south of Oxford Street is part of a growing national chain of gamer-themed bars, offering a mix of retro gaming and drinks. The games include Time Crisis, Guitar Hero, Dancing Stage and Pac-Man, plus classic consoles; free to use for guests buying drinks. The drinks offer includes several gamer-themed cocktails plus a selection of craft beer, wines, spirits and soft drinks. No food offering. Dress code is smart / casual: no tracksuits/jogging bottoms/sports shorts. The site is also the emergency exit for the Simmons bar on the next street east, Wardour Street. The site had planning permission for demolition and rebuild retaining facade but this does not appear to have happened.

  • W1, SIMMONS TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD, 17 Manette Street, W1D 4AS. Just a few yards off Tottenham Court Road in the small road leading to the "Pillars of Hercules", this is one of the London-wide Simmons cocktail bar chain. Disco, happy hour. Handy for the tube station & Elizabeth Line.

  • W2, GREEN MAN (Macneil Ltd/Bestplace Ltd/Bestplace (Ei Group)), 308 Edgware Road, W2 1DY. No real cider.

  • W2, MAD BISHOP & BEAR (Fuller's), Upper Level, The Lawn, Paddington Station Concourse, W2 1HB. Real cider no longer available.

  • W6, HAMPSHIRE (Heineken), 227 King Street, W6 9JT. Closed, being refurbished.

  • W6, LATYMERS (Fuller's), 157 Hammersmith Road, W6 8BS. 10% off real ales for CAMRA members.

  • W6, PEAR TREE, 14 Margravine Road, W6 8HJ. No real cider.

  • W8, KENSINGTON WINE ROOMS 127-129 Kensington Church Street, W8 7LP. Reopened by the team behind Allsopp’s Brewery and renamed BLUE STOOPS. One block north of the Churchill Arms this site, previously a wine bar, has been re-opened. It is named in homage to the original Blue Stoops in Burton-upon-Trent, where Allsopp's brewed from 1730. Allsopp's Best Bitter, India Pale Ale and Pale Ale available and a guest such as Kirkstall Three Swords. Allsopp's recommenced brewing in 2020 and the original Allsopp’s IPA now has pride of place on the pub’s bar. Allsopp's has also commissioned the manufacture of beer engines with high “swan necks”, allowing the pumping by hand of ale from the cellar up to customers, in a theatrical manner. Ale prices are reported as reasonable for the area. Also note the various brewery memorabilia and the marvellous Allsopp's mirror on the wall. A menu of seasonal English food is available including a short bar-food menu. But note that on Sundays, only the Sunday menu is offered in both the front bar and back dining room. The pub has also recently announced a collaboration with Blandy's, the Madeira winemaker. The pub has garnered very good reviews since it opened and The Times restaurant critic said after his visit "the headline on the Blue Stoops for me is that it is very good and not very expensive...it is a brilliant little pub trying out great new things".

  • W14, HAND & FLOWER (Fuller's), 1 Hammersmith Road, W14 8XJ. Reopened following refurb.

  • WC2, CHESHIRE CHEESE (Shepherd Neame), 5 Little Essex Street, WC2R 3LD. Reopened mid-October 2024 and real ale reinstated. Shepherd Neame Master Brew and Whitstable Bay Pale Ale and 2 Changing beers also from Sheps. Operated by Wellman Taverns who run a number of Sheps pubs and reported open seven days a week. Up to four cask ales should be available. Lunchtime menu of hot and cold sandwiches and now also doing evening meals with two menus: burgers in the saloon bar and sausage and mash etc in the upstairs newly re-done dining room.

  • WC2, CLUBHOUSE 5 (Stonegate), 5 Lisle Street, WC2H 7BG. Renamed THREE LANTERNS.

  • WC2, GEORGE (Greene King/ /Metropolitan), 213 Strand, WC2R 1AP. No real cider available.

  • WC2, LE BEAUJOLAIS, 25 Litchfield Street, WC2H 9NJ. Very close to Charing Cross Road, this is one of the most famous wine bars in central London, and now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. The venue is authentically French with the ground-floor bar providing drinks and food, whilst downstairs is a members-only restaurant. The wines, beers and other drinks, and food offered are, of course, all French as are the staff. Regulars "clock in" via a wall blackboard with sliding in/out tabs against their names. A limited number of tables may be booked for lunch in the ground-floor bar but half are reserved for walk-ins. And no bookings are taken here for the evening. Well worth a visit to soak in the atmosphere; and of course the food and drink.

  • WC2, ROADHOUSE, 35 Jubilee Market, The Piazza, WC2E 8BE. This venue is an amalgamation of 1A Tavistock Street and 35 The Piazza to form a 500-capacity underground restaurant and late night entertainment, live music and performance venue named STEREO. Drinks include various draught keg beers. The food menu includes bar snacks and an a la carte menu. "A dynamic and eclectic music programme each night - a house band will offer relaxed vibes, before the stage welcomes a rotating series of resident DJs and curated one-off artist performances." Some events may require an admission charge. Note restricted opening hours.

  • WC2, ROYAL GEORGE (Gabrielle Properties Ltd/Mitchells & Butlers/Castle (Mitchells & Butlers)), 133 Charing Cross Road, WC2H 0EA. Reopened following refurb.

  • WC2, SALVADOR & AMANDA (The Breakfast Group), 8 Great Newport Street, WC2H 7JA. Closed for site redevelopment.

  • WC2, SIMMONS LEICESTER SQUARE 28A Leicester Square, WC2H 7LE. This venue, with an entrance next to the Moon Under Water pub, is a glitzy underground cocktail bar in this very busy tourist area of central London. Disco dance floor, happy hour. Part of the London-wide Simmons chain.

  • WC2, WHITE SWAN (M&B/Nicholson's), 14 New Row, WC2N 4LF. No real cider.

  • Hammersmith Belle - has now reopened.

The venue is part of a national chain with one outpost abroad in Berlin. Various draught keg beers are available plus Patty & Bun burgers. The bar is along the back wall and it's perfectly possible to just have a drink if you want one.
  • SW1, M BAR VICTORIA ST (Land Securities), Unit 3, Zig Zag Building, 70 Victoria Street, SW1E 6SQ. Reopened as BAM KARAOKE BOX. Part of an international chain providing "drinks plus entertainment" this is a venue with a ground-floor bar plus an outside terrace. Down below in the BAM BAM Bar there is food, drink and live music before or after experiencing one of the 22 private karaoke rooms. Various keg and bottled beers are available, plus a limited but interesting food menu. BAM is an abbreviation of "boite a musique" or music box in English; as of course you knew.
  • SW1, SPORTS BAR & GRILL VICTORIA (Network Rail/Stonegate), Unit 59 1st floor Victoria Main Line Station Terminus Place, SW1V 1JU. Closed future uncertain

  • The long-expected Guinness microbrewery & visitor centre in northern Covent Garden, is now thought to be opening next spring. The Devonshire pub in Soho has become the first in the country to sell Guinness 0.0 alcohol-free on draught.

  • The Punch Bowl in Mayfair has reopened with extended opening hours and now serves breakfasts.

  • The Blackwood in Shaftesbury Avenue is due to open soon: “Crystal clear ultra-high-definition screens, roaring sound, mouth-watering food, perfect pints. With multiple bars spread across two floors, our new sports pub & kitchen Blackwood is set to be the home of live sport in London.”
